1. NYT Added 301K Digital Subscribers In Q1: Lowest For This Quarter (NYT)

The New York Times reported a total of 7.8 million subscribers across both print and digital platforms, with 6.9 million coming for online news or its Cooking and Games apps. The company added 301,000 digital customers for the first three months of the year, the lowest increase since the third quarter of 2019.

2. Gary Vaynerchuk Released His NFT Initiative (AdAge)

Gary Vaynerchuk, CEO of VaynerMedia, announced his big NFT “drop”, giving his followers a chance to buy his brand through this experimental technology. Vaynerchuk’s NFT project includes 10,255 tokens that can be found on VeeFriends.com, a website, where his followers can bid on the NFTs in what is known as a “dutch auction”.

3. Fox Corporation Beats Analyst Estimates With Q3 Revenue Of $3.22B (Bloomberg)

Fox Corp.’s revenues in the third fiscal quarter dropped almost 6.5% to $3.22 billion, beating analysts’ expectations of $3.12 billion. It resulted from an 18% increase in Fox broadcast network rates paid by pay-TV providers. Earnings were 88 cents apiece, down from 88 cents a year ago, but they exceeded the average prediction of 58 cents.

4. iHeartMedia Launches Private Marketplace Targeting 30M Podcast Audience (RainNews)

iHeartMedia today announced the introduction of Private Marketplace, a new ad-tech site for advertisers. The new audio advertisement market, developed by Voxnest (which was purchased by iHM last October), caters to iHeartMedia’s 560 podcasts, 30-million monthly viewers, and 257-million monthly plays.

5. Shift Technology Raises $220M At A $1B Valuation (Reuters)

French startup Shift Technology, which develops software to assist insurers in detecting fraudsters, has raised $220 million in new funding, bringing its total value to over $1 billion. The money will be used to produce new goods and improve existing ones, according to the group.

6. Clubhouse To Fund 50 Pilot Audio Shows (The Verge)

Clubhouse announced its plans to fund 50 audio shows by creators on its platform on concepts, ranging from interview series to shows discussing the hairstyle culture and games. Each participant will get a $5,000 per month stipend for three months, plus gear and creative support, to help them create the series.

7. YouTube Rolls Out Shorts For US Creators (9to5Google)

YouTube is rolling out its TikTok rival ‘Shorts’ within the main platform for all US-based creators with some minor feature changes after a successful trial run in India In March this year. ‘Shorts’ adds another subsection on portrait short-form videos within the main YouTube mobile app.
